Lakewood is a municipality that was incorporated in Colorado in 1969. Lakewood is directly west of Denver, hugging the front range with over 44-square-miles of undulating plains along the north-south C-470 corridor. Commuters take in vistas from every direction with direct access to five major highways across the state, including I-93 north to Boulder. With a spacious mix of suburban and urban living, residents enjoy well-landscaped neighborhoods with contemporary and traditional architecture.
Lakewood has numerous desirable developments, including the private and expansive Applewood and Green Gables Reserve. The hip, urban neighborhood, West Colfax, overlooks downtown from a hill. The neighborhood has beautiful bungalows, Tudors, and raised ranches. The population of the city is professional. There are more people working in computers and math in Lakewood than 95% of the United States. The semi-arid climate and high elevation make for pleasant summers and cozy winters with variable weather, often on the same day.

Local Lifestyle
The day-to-day life in Lakewood is laid back, yet on the go. You will see residents working in the yard or shopping before venturing to a museum or a performance downtown. Many residents work in downtown Denver or in nearby cities. Lakewood has more than enough to occupy and entertain, but its vantage point makes events almost anywhere seem practical. Along with Denver’s vast menu of restaurants and entertainment, you will never be short of options. Summer is the ideal time to head to one of the many premier music festivals across the state – including the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, the Aspen Music Festival, the Grand Junction Country Jam, and the Boulder Music Festival – or one of the myriad festivals in the metropolitan area.
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
You can explore the revitalized historic main street in the West Colfax Corridor district where you will find over 20 public art installations and performing arts venues. The classic, old diner, Chicago Style Beef and Dogs, is on West Colfax and is a great place for an old-fashioned hot dog. A little farther west on Colfax, near I-70, you will find Colorado Mills Mall, a sprawling mall in the modern tradition. Belmar West’s shopping area has a modern ambiance with pedestrian-friendly sidewalk shops. You will find an art district, restaurants, and entertainment in addition to the shops at Belmar West.
The ever-changing seasonal menu at 240 Union, is a local favorite for fine dining. Another Lakewood favorite is Café Jordano. They provide traditional Italian cuisine. Residents from across the region come to Cafe Jordano for their gnocchi in cream sauce.
Things to Do
Lakewood offers year-round fun with everything from the most relaxing activities to the most invigorating. Lakewood has over 80 parks, including Bear Creek Lake Park where you will find 2,600-acres of bike paths, fishing, camping, picnic shelters, and other recreation. The most notable of country clubs and golf courses in the area is Lakewood Country Club. Built in 1908, it hails as “one of the best in the West.” It is one of the first golf courses designed in the United States and it is a PGA top-100 course.
In the summer, locals might catch the roar of drag racing echoing from the foothills of Bandimere Speedway from miles away. Up the canyon, you will find the Red Rocks Amphitheater in nearby Morrison. It is a legendary venue for concert-goers and tourists. The majestic natural rock formation is visible from the city. Farther up north, not far from Lakewood, you can tour the famous Coors Brewery in Golden. All summer long you will find festivals of every kind in Lakewood.
Schools
Lakewood, Colorado is one of the most well-educated cities in the country, with over 40% of adults holding at least a bachelor’s degree. The city has many trade and technical schools, along with a wide variety of educational institutions. The Jefferson Country School District serves the Lakewood community.
